My Secrets Out...
Okay, I've been keeping this kind of a secret because I wasn't sure how long this would last, but..I'm a vegetarian. I started 2 months ago because I accidentally read a book that was a pro-vegan/organic book (I thought it was a diet book.Oops!) So, of course after reading all gruesome meat stories (which I won't go into) I decided to just give vegetarianism a try.
Disclaimer: For some reason this seems to be a sort of heated topic - so please know that I'm not on any sort of campaign or crusade - it's just something I wanted to try for myself.
I've grown up eating meat, so I thought this would be really hard - but it really hasn't. My favorite meats before I started the vegetarian thing was bacon, sausage and pepperoni so nutritionally I don't think I'm suffering by cutting those out!! haha!
Anyway, I'm just curious if anyone else out there is a vegetarian if you have tips. I have also been intrigued by the vast amount of variations that there are for vegetarians: ex: vegetarians that eat fish, vegetarians that don't eat eggs but do eat cheese etc etc.
There is this hilarious comedian named Jim Gaffigan who in his comedy acts talks about vegetarians and it's really funny. One of my favorite lines is, "You know how vegetarians love to tell you how long they gone without eating meat for? They're like, "I haven't had meat for 5 years" and I'm like, "We'll I haven't had a banana in a month, you don't see me bragging about it!" That's SO true! I'm constantly giving Michael the update on how long it's been since I've had meat. haha! (Check out the video below...SO funny) Our friend Brion Hopkins brought over the DVD and we've watching about 4 times!
Anyway, since I haven't missed eating meat I'm kind of assuming that I'll just keep this up. But we'll see... :)

We are SO not vegetarians, but we eat a lot of vegetarian meals. And since Dax is super-sensitive to a lot of things I eat, I'm an almost vegan; no dairy and no eggs.
I get a lot of vegetarian recipes from cookinglight.com. Tofu stir-fry is one of our faves. For a really quick meal, Trader Joe's has some yummy bottled sauces (like Thai curry) that go well with tofu, veggies, and brown rice.
Anyways, I'm writing an essay now and getting hungry, but you go girl, meatless and all.
Hey Anna, I'm not a vegetarian...don't think I could be, so no thoughts for you on that:). Anyway, I'm so glad to hear everyone is doing well! China/Japan...I was a little off. Rich said he would love to get your parents #. But, don't know how you want to do that over public blogs here. I'm glad you and Micheal are so happy too!!!
Hmmm...I suppose you could say I'm a recovering vegetarian. :) I think I've learned that it's not the healthiest, optimal diet for humans; particularly veganism. I still don't eat a lot of meat and sometimes have to make myself eat some. But we're kind of like Jenn's family; lots of vegetarian meals. That will never change.
I NEVER have to remind myself to eat cheese or baked goods. I'm convinced vegans cannot possibly be happy people! :)
Oh, I just realized that you asked for some tips! I'd say if you're going to be vegetarian, try to get some animal protein in your diet from egg whites in addition to tofu and and other plant based proteins. It's much more useful to your body.
Have you tried Quorn? It's the coolest product. I prefer it to tofu when I really want chicken. It is seriously chicken-like. :) Also, veg hot dogs (and other "sausage" products)are great. I swear they're pretty much the same as the real thing(whatever that is)!
The great news is...you live in the best place to be vegetarian! I'm so jealous of the variety of vegetarian deliciousness out there.
Good luck to you Anna! You are a better woman than I! Had my self and nice juicy steak after the Temple Saturday night! :)
Good for you! And that is so funny!! I'm not but I'm a super picky meat eater, so Jerry's family says I'm part vegetarian. Black beans are a great source of protein and super healthy. Ditto on the egg whites too.
