Spreading The Love

Just wanted to spread the love with Queensberry’s blessing, to extend their promotion from our tour to all those visiting our blog. If you are interested in trying out the most beautiful albums in the industry, just shoot them an email, mention Michael + Anna Costa, and they’ll automatically hook you up with 20% off their starter kit!

If you haven’t got a chance in person to see and touch the quality of a Queensberry album, just ask any of your friends that already use them or were able to make it to one of our tour dates. Otherwise you can check them out when we speak at Imaging USA, the Professional Photographers of America convention in Phoenix, Arizona where we’re speaking for Fujifilm as well. Also speaking at Imaging USA are Anne Geddes, Jesh DeRox, & Joe Bussink just to name a few.

Fujifilm & Queensberry are two products that have really made a difference in taking our branding and image to the next level. We’re always so happy and feel so blessed to share them with others. I can use a thousand words to try and describe why I shoot film, but to me, the image below from my series “faces” says it all.

Feelings...Nothing more than Feelings...

What is the lyric from? Anyway, I know it sounds totally lame but lately I've had a ton of emotions going through me 24/7 and thought it would be good to release some of them. I was watching a snippet of Bravo's interview with James Lipton which was hosted by Dave Chappelle. Anyway, Dave Chappelle was saying how he's never done manual labor in his life. The hard labor that he's done has all been emotional and psychological. He's like, "If you could look at my brain it would look like Denzel Washingtons back!" I thought that was really hilarious but also comforting because Dave Chappelle is super successful for a reason - and its not luck. He was obviously able to fight through the emotional rollercoasters of acheiving his dreams and he did.
I was also reading in a magazine the other day a quote by Will Smith that was along the lines of: The most successful people are the ones that work the hardest. Its seems obvious, but its so true. I constantly hear people make comments about why things didn't work out for them or why they are destined to be a certain way. I strongly dislike those kinds of statements! Our brains are so unbelievable powerful and its a total slap in the face to our creator to even suggest that we are less than totally amazing.
Michael and I have BIG dreams. I mean, really big. We were in a meeting the other day with our insurance agent who asked us how much money we'd like to be making in a few years. He was trying to calculate how much we should save for retirement and such. Anyway, we told him - and he entered in the numbers. It turned out that the calculator software that he was working off of didn't calculate that high! Now, am I saying that money is the most important thing to us? Of course not. But if something goes down in our family that sucks (death, disabilities who knows) we want to be prepared to be able to help whoever it is that stands in need. I also feel like, dream big. The worst thing that can happen is that it won't work out the way you planned. But most likely you'll have gotten farther than if you never dreamed.
There is also a great saying among the Amish. "If your praying for pototoes, you better pick up a hoe"I love this saying because its always annoyed me when people have dreams but don't ever seem to actually WORK towards them. I just feel bad because I want everyone to achieve what they want in life. But it will never happen unless you do something!
So emotionally, all these thoughts have been going through my head lately. Its easy to get comfortable in life. I try to stay uncomfortable a lot because its a signal that I'm on the right track. Carving out new neural pathways in the brain is a good thing! I remember when Michael and I started our business almost 4 years ago and my Mom was all worried that it wasn't going to work out. I was like, "Mom, if the business fails - Michael and I both have college degrees! We'll be fine. Stop worrying!" Now that we have some new projects and some uncharted territory ahead of us, it feels like we're back to those days again. Which is great! Life is an adventure, right?
Okay, I feel like I'm totally rambling at this point and that most of this makes no sense. Sorry for the people that made it to the end here! Thanks for listening! :)

Lisa + Nick

Lisa and Nick's wedding, was much like Lisa and Nick. Easy going, beautiful, relaxing and precious. What an honor it was for us to be apart of this day. One of our favorite churches to photograph is Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Montecito. The adobe inspired architecture gives a texture and feel to our images that we love. And of course, our subjects looking like models didn't hurt either! Debbie Hews (Chic Events) did an amazing job planning the perfect day. The gorgeous flowers were designed by Mindy Rice with the reception held at Casa Paz del Mar in Montecito.

Jen Hulmes Surprise Birthday!

Michael and I sporting our "Blue Steel" poses!

My good friend and accountant, Jen Hulme had a birthday last week! Here amazing husband totally went over the top (in a good way!) for her party. He hired out a hummer limousine to pick us all up and go over to Beachside Grill (where he and Jen were having appetizers). She was SO surprised!
Then the hummer took the girls to get manicures and pedicures! The boys went to play pool downtown in the meantime. Then we all met back up and went to dinner at Milk and Honey which was delicious! I've always wanted to go to a Tapas Restaurant and so this was a really fun treat!
Strawberry and Mint Chip Ice Cream Cakes were for dessert! (Yum)
Chris is one of those all around good guys that definitely knows how to take care of his wife! Way to go Chris!

Halloween! Am I behind on this or what??

Halloween was super fun this year! Zohe Felici of Events of Santa Barbara invited us to her annual Halloween party and we had a blast. Also, I just want to mention that we LOVE Zohe. She is not only an amazing coordinator but a great friend. And she was absolutely adorable in her Swan Costume.
Also, Nico Cervantes of Nico Designs was there and we totally monopolized him all night! We had such a fun time connecting with him - he is such a great guy!
Thanks Zohe for an great night!!

(Oh, and P.S - I am "Santa's Little Helper" Michael is "Donnie Darko" Zohe is a Swan and Nico is Ricky Ricardo!) I figured I could use that Santa's Little Helper outfit for Christmas too! I can't wait to put it back on!
